I wasn’t supposed to be the person who caught this photo.
I wasn’t supposed to be on the Big Island the week I was there.
A close friend who decided to move back to the main land invited me to go to Hawaii last minuet before they moved away. I do not do impromptu things in my life often, almost never in fact. When invited I tried to say no several times but yes kept coming out of my mouth. Perplexed I stopped trying to say no and booked everything on my credit card.
From the moment we stepped off the plane I could feel the atoms in my body bouncing around faster. I could feel the energy of the island everywhere. I knew without a doubt that I was supposed to be exactly where I was in that moment. We got our rental car and headed out to take photos.
We stayed in the most affordable hotel we could find that night and got up at 3 am to catch a boat out to the lava flow.
That evening when I sat down to edit I saw this and knew without a doubt that I had been called to the experience. As a professional photographer I have taken countless photos. This is the one that has effected me the most. Aloha Madam Pele, till we meet again.
